Human-Source Intelligence — HUMINT

Not everything worth knowing exists online.

Information That Depends on People

Human-source intelligence involves obtaining information through people.

This May Include

Identifying potential sources
Developing sources
Witness enquiries
Locating former colleagues or associates
Discreet approaches

Interviewing
Corroborating accounts
Exploring conflicting testimony
Obtaining background and context unavailable from public records
Developing new lines of enquiry

My background in private investigation, Fleet Street journalism and psychology is particularly useful where information depends upon people rather than databases.

Knowing how to ask is often as important as knowing what to ask.
